We want to start a world wide family who stay connected through the safety of our Facebook page and email.
Christian Legalism
Christian legalism exists when rules of Christianity try to secure righteousness in the sight of God with good works. When it comes to Christian legalism, many Christian legalists believe that their good works and their obedience to God will basically influence their salvation.
You can also define Christian legalism as when you depend on rules of Christianity to make you acceptable before a holy God.
At Guardians of Grace, we work to further the gospel of Biblical grace and help educate others about Christian legalism. Some of the areas of Christian legalism that we address includes:
- Examples of Christian legalism
- Christian legalism vs. grace
- Christian legalism religion
- Dangers of Christian legalists

Christian Legalists
We encourage you to study the scriptures when it comes to discerning whether or not rules of Christianity and teachings of Christian legalists are align with the Spirit and the content of the Bible.
The subject of grace is not just in the New Testament. The same God who poured out the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in the New Testament, is the same God who extends His endless grace in the Old Testament.
Once saved, our responsibility is to grow in the understanding of grace and not fall to the thinking of many Christian legalists. We want to help others understand the importance of being concerned with the approval of God and not the approval of man. Some subjects we address when it comes to educating about Christian legalists includes:
- Character of Christian legalists
- How to avoid becoming Christian legalists
- Examples of Christian legalists in the Bible
- What does the Bible say about Christian legalists

Rules of Christianity
Among many Christians, there is a form of Christian legalism that although we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ, sanctification is a matter of submitting to rules of Christianity.
One’s journey as a follower of Christ is judged based on whether or not they keep the rules of Christianity.
Although many popular rules of Christianity can help Christians from stumbling, they are not the same when it comes to Biblical grace and the fruit of the Spirit.
When rules of Christianity are made to be essential doctrine or presented as a part of salvation, false teaching about the doctrine of the Gospel occurs.
Some common rules of Christianity that many Christian legalists teach include the following:
- Men and facial hair in church
- Christian women wearing makeup
- Women wearing pants
- No dancing, no movies
